Greater Light Rejected Is Greater Condemnation

The Jewish leaders and people of Jesus' day had advantages that no other generation before them had.  They had the marvelous, clear ministry of John the Baptist. John was foretold by the OT prophets, and clearly pointed to Jesus of Nazareth as the Promised Messiah.  The Jews also had Jesus' ministry, His clear teaching, and the overwhelming proof of His great miracles.  Yet, they refused to repent.  They were therefore deserving of an eternal punishment worse than that suffered by Sodom or other wicked cities.  People today have the light of Scripture all around them, yet often reject its testimony.  Compassion dictates that we recognize that many are headed for a more serious eternal fate than the worst of sinners before Christ came.
