The Loving God and His Hell
Series From the Gospel of Matthew
353
THE LOVING GOD AND HIS HELL
- God is love and God is good (1 John 4:8, Luke 18:19).
- Hell exists (Matthew 10:28, Luke 16:23).
- Hell is the place of the damned (Mark 9:47-48, Isaiah 66:23-24).
- Eternal punishment comes as a result of evil deeds (Isaiah 66:23-24, Revelation 20:13-15).
- Hell is also characterized as "outer darkness" (Matthew 25:30).
- Christ suffered the same "outer darkness" on the cross (Matthew 27:45-46).
- Those who trust in the sacrifice of Christ will never have to experience this separation from the love of God (Romans 8:35-39).
- God is in hell as much as He is in heaven (Psalm 139:7-8).
- Punishment for sin is absolutely just (Romans 3:26).
- So the Good God has a good purpose for hell. It is for the punishment of all those whose sins are not covered by the blood of Christ (John 3:16).
