We Have Such an High Priest

Paul now continues in this 8th chapter to describe the kind of high priest Jesus Christ is. They should come to appreciate what Christ has done and is doing for them moment by moment at the right hand of the Father. Christ has in fact initiated the new covenant with his shed blood. But let us not overlook the fact that the New Covenant was made with national Israel. What we have experienced of it as Christian Jews and Gentiles is in a sense just a foretaste of what God will do with national Israel one day. They shall know Christ and cry out to Him as the Messiah of God. They'll understand that He is the same that they crucified some 2,000 years ago. Why? Because under the new covenant arrangement He shall pour upon them the spirit of grace. What the old covenant could not do as an external covenant, the new will bring to pass for Israel because it will work within their hearts and minds.
