Independence? - No!
Series Jeremiah
30
- OUR CIRCUMSTANCES TEACH US TO DEPEND ON GOD
- the first temptation was to assert independence
- as soon man fell pride kicked in - ie self-management came to the fore
- we now think it below our dignity to ask for help, even from God!
- God is really saying “trust me” – trust is at the heart of dependence.
- WE EXPRESS OUR DEPENDENCE THROUGH PRAYER
(a) the God we pray to – our view of God significantly affects prayer!
- note v. 2 – a “big” situation! – but small when measured against God!
(b) God’s promise of help – “I will answer and will tell you...known”! - God is really the only perfect listener in existence!
- that we have God as such a listener should constrain us to pray!
- “I will tell you...” – God did not say “I’ll set you free..”!
- the grand view of eternal things which God shows is for our comfort now!
