Just when you thought this prophetic chapter would end…it just keeps going! Verse by verse, Daniel continues to accurately predict the future of his people. Daniel 11 is just one of many shocking prophecies in the Bible that prove the divine authorship of the Bible.
Dan 11:22 And with the arms of a flood shall they be overflown from before him, and shall be broken; yea, also the prince of the covenant.
Antiochus IV Epiphanies, at this time, was unstoppable and overcame all threats to his throne. The Prince of the covenant mentioned here is Onias III, the high priest. Jason the brother of Onias III, makes a deal with Antiochus Epiphanies to make himself the high priest. After Onias III is removed from his office, Jason arranges to have a priest named Menelaus take the bribe money to Antiochus IV. Menelaus takes the bribe money, adds some of his own and convinces Antiochus IV to make him the high priest instead of Jason. Antiochus takes the money, double crosses Jason, and sets up Menelaus as the new high priest.
Dan 11:23 And after the league made with him he shall work deceitfully: for he shall come up, and shall become strong with a small people.
The vile and deceitful king Antiochus IV enters into Egypt with a “small” but “strong” force to take advantage of his nephew, Ptoleny VI. He convinces his sister Cleopatra and his nephew that he has come to protect his Ptolemy. In other words, he comes up with a small but strong people and makes a league with his nephew.
