Paul Before Agrippa

Learning from Paul's Mission at Caesarea
Paul's Ministry with the Roman Leaders -Part 3 of 3
Paul Befor King Agrippa
Acts 26

Acts 26:14-18 records Paul’s retelling to king Herod Agrippa II of the words Jesus had spoken to him many years earlier when Jesus had interrupted Paul’s persecution of the church. Jesus had revealed Himself as the Christ and called Paul into His service. Jesus had also charged Paul, “... get up and stand on your feet; for this purpose I have appeared to you, to appoint you a minister and a witness...” (16).

Verse 18 records why Jesus appointed Paul as a minister and witness to Jews and Gentiles:

  • “to open their eyes...”
  • “so that the may turn from darkness to light and the dominion of Satan to God”
  • “that they may receive forgiveness of sins...”
  • “[and that they may receive] an inheritance among those who have been sanctified by faith in Me.”

A question worth processing is, “To what extend is Paul’s mission our mission?”
We can NOT say that Jesus’ calling upon Paul’s life is our’s in every way. Paul was an apostle and a builder of the church’s foundation and we are not. We build on the foundation already laid by Jesus and the Prophets and the Apostles.
That being said, there is considerable similarity between Paul’s mission and our own. We both live in the same broad time period between the first and second advents of Christ. God is still calling people into His kingdom by means of the Gospel. See if you can articulate and Scripturaly support the calling God has upon your life. How is it similar and how is it different than Paul’s?
