The Bread of Life Pt 2

57

6:1-14, Feeding of the Multitudes
6:15-21, Jesus Walking on the Sea; coming to His disciples; giving them an additional reminder of just who He is: their Lord, Master, & Messiah.
6:22-27, The people sought the Lord, but their motives for seeking Him was to satisfy the passions of their own fleshly lusts.

6:28, They sought carnal things (v26); Jesus gives them spiritual truth (v27); & then they get a kind of religious tone. Their question wasn't spiritual; it was from the flesh. They wanted to know how they could make their own miracle bread: v30 betrays their motives. Eccl 6:7, "All the labour of man is for his mouth, and yet the appetite is not filled."

6:29, This is the primary & principal work: faith in Christ Jesus. "But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him" (Heb 11:6). "…for whatsoever is not of faith is sin" (Rom 14:23). & we've talked about faith a great deal in our study in Romans. Saving faith is imparted as a gift of God (Eph 2:8); & saving faith is also a resultant work of God thru regeneration as the fruit of the Spirit (Gal 5:22). But we also examined last week that this text tells us that saving faith is the very work of God. Therefore, we know that saving faith, is not only a gift of God, & the fruit of God, but it is also the work of God.
