The Dangers of Classical Education

967

A Christian College loses almost 1/3 of its teaching staff, and at root in the controversy is the weight of authority placed on classical humanist thinkers.

Many in the world of Christian education have blindly pursued a "classical" education, as if it were equivalent to a God-centered approach to truth. Here Kevin Swanson produces a critique of classical education and suggests that not only education but society itself ought to be modelled after a biblical system, rather than the classical Greek humanistic model. As evidenced in the history of this country, classical education can be dangerous.

Briefly, we examine Plato's thinking in his "Republic" and the 2500 year influence he has played on education. Have you ever wondered who it was that envisioned such things as abortion, infanticide, public schools, women in combat, statism, equalitarianism in roles, and 36% of children born without fathers?
