Mt. Olivet Discourse: The Fig Tree
Series Gospel of Matthew
Jesus shows us that the Apostles should know the imminence of Christ's coming in judgment. While He does not tell them the exact day or time, He does give them sufficient information that they should not be totally unaware. So it is with much of our lives; there is much about them that we don't know. When will be get sick? What will be our greatest trials? When will they come? When will we die? Such events, however, should not catch us pre-occupied with things of life, as if they were never to happen. The Bible is a book that includes warnings, which the believer heeds and therefore becomes watchful. The unbeliever ignores the Bible's warnings, and is often like the person who finds life full of terror, dread, unexpectedness; and who finds death full of shock. Contrariwise, the Christian prepares for life and eternity because we believe what the Bible says.
