God Hates Religion - Message 4 - The Sin of Idolatry - Amos 4:1-13. An oracle of the doom of self-worship. God confronts the religious rituals that had replaced true worship, sarcastically and poetically exposing the consumeristic and selfish worship practices that do not please Him but provoke Him to anger and even hatred. Hearing these rebukes the people do not repent or return to Him and so He warns of the coming righteous retribution and says to the people, "Prepare to meet your God!"
