Married, Unmarried, & Unequally Yoked

130

In the Roman culture, most of the people were slaves or freed slaves, so most of the population did not have the right to marry 'In Manum.' which meant that the were not legally bound by the marriage.
In Corinth, when you add all of their debauchery you end up with rampant immorality, and Paul the Apostle has planted a church in this environment. These people wanting to know Truth, come to the source of truth in the Apostle Paul.
The Pharisees are trying to lower the standard and sanctity of marriage and Jesus elevates it..
The Pharisees want a way out because of their lustful passions.
They debase marriage, and make it trite and meaningless.
Jesus raises the bar, and gave the lofty divine truth, the Theological position, that marriage is a blessed union that is binding for life, and that the only exception that God has made, the only provision is for Ongoing, Unrepentant, Sexual Immorality. And even that is still not a rule.
Even when His own disciples concluded, if there is no way out then it's better not to marry.
Jesus says in effect, being stuck in marriage is no reason to get out, but to the contrary, it is the reason to be in.
A loving; passionate; caring; joy-filled and devoted marriage is the picture of a God glorifying Gospel centered life.
Marriage between Christians should be the one place that the world looks to and say's:
'Oh, so that's what Jesus meant when He said they will know you by your love for each other! Now is see the living example of the Gospel lived out daily.'
The world and the church and our children should see two people intoxicated by each other.
Who devote themselves to building up each other and sanctifying each other.
