Why Are Sauls Kids Hanged? Well you just connect circumcision and Gibeonites. Simple?

422

Yes, this is a Romans lecture... but because of what Paul wrote, we must send ourselves back into the Old Testament to learn about the Gibeonites, because of circumcision. And now, you would be right to wonder, What pastor in his right mind would do lectures on circumcision? Well, it couldn't be because he wants us to learn actually learn something in church, would it? Oh yeah... that's what he's doing. So, if that doesn't offend you, come on in and find out what the advanced class is getting.

You see, Paul began to address the meaning of circumcision in Romans chapter 2, and the Gibeonites figure in prominently in any discussion of circumcision. So, I'm just going to give you some highlights of the first part of the lecture so you'll at least have an idea what you're getting into. But, trust me... It'll be fun (as we define fun).

So, you'll be opening your TextBooks to Joshua 9 and 10. We're going to compare those two chapters and that'll take us back to Genesis 34 and after comparing that we'll be in 2 Samuel 21. Have I chased away the people who just want to feel better when they listen to a sermon yet? Let's hope so.

You see, Saul's sons were the ones who killed Gibeonites in direct opposition to God's will. So, they get hanged. The same thing that's going on in Joshua 9 is going on in Genesis 34, but you need to go over to Joshua 5 in order to piece that together. So, open your TextBooks to Joshua 4, because that's where we start today. You'll notice here a connection to the parting of the Red Sea here, this time it's the Jordan, and the people that see this are scared. But here comes more circumcision.

Let's learn something... Press play.
