If We Claim to Know God

89 ( 77 | 12 )

What can we be sure about? How do we know what is true? Who do we trust? Just as in John’s day, so today, there are many who seek to re-badge Christian faith and in doing so hijack the message of Christ by denying the truth of the incarnation.
John makes it clear that the word of life was not just a mystical or spiritual idea but a flesh and blood person. This life had a voice – he spoke. He was see-able and touchable - not just a spirit floating by. This alone is the eternal life that was with the Father in the beginning and has now been made known.
This heartfelt letter begins with a deeply personal and relational witness by one who longs for his ‘dear children’ in faith to be assured of the true basis for claiming to really know God personally and to share with one another in the truth.
