The Lord's Christ

114 ( 65 | 49 )

In this passage, we see the meeting between Simeon and Mary and Joseph. Simeon was a just man waiting for the consolation of Israel. He believed in the Word of God and walked with God because the Holy Ghost was upon him. He was given special revelation by the Holy Ghost that he should not see death till he had seen the Lord's Christ. It is through the Holy Ghost that God has a remnant in dark times. What does this meeting reveal about the Lord's Christ?

  1. subjection

The word 'subjction' speaks of being under something. Christ was born under the law. We see references to the law in vv 22 and 24. We see three key things here

circumcision
purification
presentation

In light of these three things, we see that Christ is coming to fulfill the law. He comes not just to experience the penalty of the law but to fulfill the law and be in subjection to the law of God. We see the God-man willingly taking the role of sin bearer. He underwent rituals like circumcision and purification for those that had sin even though he had no sin. He is a sin-bearing Savior.

  1. sanctification

Here we see that Christ was called holy unto the Lord. He was set apart for God's use. Christ is set apart as the one who will serve to be our Redeemer

  1. salvation

Simeon when looking at Christ says his eyes had seen God's salvation. Christ alone is the place where salvation is found. Without him, there is nothing but condemnation and damnation.By being our sin-bearer, he can be our Redeemer.
