As we return to chapter 15, we see the end of Saul’s kingship. He was disobedient to the law of God and full of excuses when called to account for his sins. Yet most of all, we learn about the Lord, who raises up and who casts down in his sovereign will and power. But most of all he is gracious, seeing Israel’s—and our—need for a godly king.
