Jesus calling disciples
Series Jesus' Ministry
The calling of Jesus' disciples took place in the context of his growing ministry - they were being called to take part in it. But the account also describes the characteristic features of any call. Luke gives us details of Simon Peter's experience. The awareness of divine glory, the sense of sin, and the hope in God's Word are all characteristic of his calling. But though there are similarities there are also differences in the way we experience this - the timing, whether it is vivid or calm, etc. His call carries authority - and if we insist on making our own decisions instead of responding to the call that will cost us dearly. If we are concerned about whether we have truly responded to Christ's call we should ask ourselves certain questions such as "Has there been a change in me?", "How do I see Christ now?", "How do I see myself now?", "Is being right with God the one thing I must have?" He is calling all of us, and he deserves a response.
