The Decrees of God Pt 3

A few weeks ago, we embarked on a series of devotions from A PURITAN CATECHISM that begins dealing with the sovereignty of God in no uncertain terms; & specifically examining these past two weeks the decrees of God; that is, that the decrees of God are His eternal decisions, judgments, & determinations.

Q7. What are the decrees of God?
A7. The decrees of God are His eternal purpose according to the counsel of His own will, whereby for His own glory He has foreordained whatever comes to pass.

Q8. How does God execute His decrees? A8. God executes His decrees in the works of creation & providence.

& as the explanation for Catechism 8 is found in the answers to Catechism 9 & Catechism 10, we saw that Scripture tells us that God's decrees are carried out in His work of creation. Last week, we concentrated for the most part upon Catechism 9, as God's creative work was "God's making all things from nothing, by the Word of His power, in 6 normal consecutive days, & all very good."

This week, we will focus primarily upon Catechism 10.

Q10. How did God create man?
A10. God created man, male & female, after His own image, in knowledge, righteousness, & holiness with dominion over the creatures.
