#3 From Providence to Profession

15

We are considering the story of Rahab. In this, we see God's faithfulness not only in Israel but even to Rahab. This is a wonderful chapter of danger, and conversion, and faith. The story of Rahab is about a lost sinner who by grace alone repents of her sin. Rahab's transformation and her profession of faith. A credible profession of faith is one of the clearest marks that a transformation is happening. There are two absolute essentials in any credible confession. The first is a profession of faith in submission to a holy God. The second is a confession of her guilt before God. She pleads for mercy. She demonstrates that she believes that the God who justly condemns also shows mercy. She recognizes that her only hope is the mercy of God. Rehab's story includes treason against her king. Why would she risk her life to save these 2 spies. Because she believed God was God. She believed this was no mere accident that the spies were sent to her. She believed that God was showing her mercy. The providence of God was to place her in a situation where she had to choose between what God was revealing to her, and the old wicked lifestyle she had once lived. God had chosen Rahab to be an object of His grace. That's why all providential events unfolded in her favor. God was saving His lamb. Behind God's providence is God's Sovereignty and His love for His children. What happens to Rahab because she submits herself to the will of God? She was shown mercy. The people of God are greatly encouraged. The people of God need to hear how God has been faithful to you. When God answers specific prayers, we need to hear about it.
