“The Reassuring Effect of Love”
1 John 3:19-23 (Hebrews 10:11-15)

Introduction

· The Child of God vs. The Child of the Devil (1 John 3:10)

· Love that Flows from the Love of God (1 John 3:16-18)

· Love toward the Brethren flows from being Born of God

Three Consequences to Loving in Deed & in Truth (vs. 19-23)

  1. Affirm that we are of the Truth (v. 19a)

· Love is only true when it is put into action

· Evidence that the Truth of God Dwells in Us (John 13;35)

  1. Reassure our Hearts (vs.19b-21)

· “Assure” = “Set at Ease or Rest” (v. 19b; Isaiah 32:17; Hebrews 10:22; Galatians 5:22)

· If Our Conscience or Heart Condemns Us (v. 20; Philemon 3:10-11; Psalm 139:1-4

· If Our Conscience or Heart does not Condemns Us (v. 21; 2 Corinthians 1:21

  1. Strengthen our Confidence Before God in Prayer (vs.22-23) – Next Week, Lord Willing

Conclusion and Application

· Does Your Heart or Conscience Testify to a life conducted in simplicity and godly sincerity, loving the Brethren in Deed and in Truth?

· If Your Heart Condemns You, Won’t You This Day Come to Christ in True Faith with a Repentant Heart?

· God Know Your Works (Isaiah 64:6), Whether They are Done from the Love of God Abiding in You, or Whether They are Done in Fear, to Earn His Favor
