Pride Goeth Before the Fall
Series Series in Jeremiah (2004-2007)
52
Aim: To be genuinely humble, thankful churchmen.
Doctrine: God is sure to judge pride, because it greatly dishonors Him, and because it is the root of all sin.
Exegesis: Pride's slide into perdition: it starts with broken ''security'' (vv. 16-20); it then is exposed as despising God (vv. 21-26); it dies as the target of its own taunts (directed at God's people) (vv. 27-29).
Further application: How to fight off pride and arrogance: first, get an accurate appraisal of myself; then, rejoice at how spectacular Christ is.
Key verse: v. 29 ''We have heard the pride of Moab (He is exceedingly proud), of his loftiness and arrogance and pride, and of the haughtiness of his heart.''
