My Rest

1. Only the believing enter into God's rest v3a.
   We enter into God's rest when we draw near to God by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ - unbelief disqualifies from God's rest.

2. God's rest is set forth in the creation Sabbath v3b,4.
   The significance of the creation Sabbath: an example/pattern for man of rest in order to worship, but also a sample of eternal rest and fellowship with God as promised to Adam in the covenant of works.

3. The need and possibility of entering God's rest still stands v5-8.
   God's rest still extended to sinners in the gospel though all was forfeited by sin - God's rest not enjoyed or entered upon merely by external participation, inclusion in the land of Canaan and the church visible does not secure us God's rest - all warned to seek God's rest through saving faith.

Application:

• not all the visible church has entered into this rest.
• only God's rest is worth having. God's rest promised through the gospel more glorious and blessed than Adam's unfallen state.
