Having a Rooted Witness

Can I share with you two fundamental principles that I find so many living without? There are more, no doubt, but these two have stood out to me through the years. And while in the word yesterday, and this morning, I was reminded, once again, how essential they are—and the staggering number of people who are living without them.

There are TWO—irreplaceable and indispensable—dynamics, that Paul pointed out to Timothy (2 Timothy 2:13-17), that the majority of the people I cross paths with have no clue of their significance or have simply chosen to neglect their value.

What are they?

• Personally knowing a pastor and continuing in the things they have taught and exemplified. Having an intimate and growing relationship with a pastor, who is compelled by the love of Jesus, that loves the Lord, His word, His people and being a servant of the Lord, a vessel of mercy, on mission to reach people for Jesus, teach people about Jesus and equip people to serve Jesus.

• Personally knowing the Scriptures. Having an intimate and growing knowledge and understanding of the living Word of God that makes one wise of the rich blessings of saving grace and thoroughly furnishes and equips every servant of God—for every good work He assigns.

They go together — those who equip and — the tool they use to equip — and the people of God. The servant, assigned by God to shepherded your life — and the means they use cannot be random. The Scriptures establish and furnish the shepherds of God with everything they need to properly understand life and equip those they've been given to love and lead.

You see, this is why God gave these principles to us in that order. Know
