A Warning Against Apostasy

This passage warns of those who "were once enlightened" and "tasted of the Heavenly gift" and were "partakers of the Holy Spirit" and then fell away. Are these true believers who lost their salvation? Were they false believers who were never saved? Or were they something else? What do these difficult phrases mean? That is the subject of this message. True believers ultimately don't fall away. False believers do. And some, so willfully and defiantly renounce Christ that any hope of future repentance is impossible. God doesn't tell us who they are; but He warns us that they exist. Our only hope is found in Christ. Trust in Him or perish.
