Exegesis: The nations of God and Satan are distiguished by faith, or the lack thereof. Believers acknowledge the truth (v. 45); unbelievers acknowledge each other (vv. 46-48). The nations of God and Satan are distiguished by atonement, or the lack thereof. The damned have no substitute (vv. 49-50); the redeemed have full justification (vv. 51-52). The nations of God and Satan are distiguished by love, or the lack thereof. Jesus abides with His friends (vv. 53-54) and avoids the reprobate (vv. 55-57).
