The Sword of the Lord

Aim: To be on the ''right end'' of the sword of the Lord.

Doctrine: ''The sword of the Lord'' is very active: ''negatively,'' in excising wickedness, and ''positively,'' in spreading grace.

Exegesis: The ends achieved by ''the sword of the Lord'': it warns those who oppress God's people (v. 1); it judges those who remains God's foes (vv. 2-5); it cleanses the land—for better things ahead (vv. 6-7).

Further application: How we are to employ God's sword (Word): first, in repentance, individually and corporately; then, in evangelism, preclaiming Christ's glory.
