Same God/Divergent Promises
Series Series in Jeremiah (2004-2007)
Aim: To be both secure in an zealous for the covenant God.
Doctrine: The Lord deals very differently with the world as compared with His church. The God who is righteous to judge His enemies is also righteous in saving His people.
Exegesis: The coordinated attributes of the one perfect God: His justice demands that sin be punished (vv. 25-26); His mercy is lavished on the undeserving (v. 27); His faithfulness assures His children's welfare (v. 28).
Further application: How we are to act in light of God's character: let us be thankful, cheerful churchmen who seek the benefit of those yet outside.
Key phrases: vv. 25a & 27a ''The LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, says: 'Behold, I will bring punishment on Amon of No' ... 'But do not fear, O My servant Jacob'...''
