What Does Burial Mean to You?

Why do we bury our dead? Where does the practice come from? What does it mean? In 1 Corinthians 15, Paul explains the importance of the final hours of the ministry of Christ, 'Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the Scriptures …' (1 Cor. 15:3–4). This message focuses on the burial of Christ. What does it mean? How should we think of it? What value is it to us that Christ was buried? What we find in our text is that burial teaches us something about the Gospel, for it is the final step in the humiliation of Christ.
