Philippi was a Roman Colony in North Eastern Greece in Macedonia and it is the place where the Lord called Paul to through a dream.

Philippi was named after Philip II who was the Father of Alexander the Great.

In Acts 16 Paul was in a place called Troas which was near the Northern Tip of Turkey’s West Coast when he has a vision of a man calling him to go to Macedonia.

We read about the vision in Acts 16.

Philippi became the leading city in the district of Macedonia. It was a wealthy city. It had rich agricultural land nearby as well as Gold Mines.
To look at the city with its beautiful streets and architecture and the Prime Agricultural land surrounding it one back then would have concluded that everything is OK.

Amongst the vast wealth of the City, amongst the Culture of the Greek and Roman Influences of the City, amongst all its education and philosophies, amongst all its religions the city was in great need.

The City was in spiritual poverty.

The City of Philippi in Macedonia with all its beauty and education and culture needed the Gospel and the City of Newcastle with all its beauty and education and culture needs the Gospel like never before.

As a result of the call Paul ends up establishes a Church in Philippi.

If you were to look at the people that were touched by the Lord in Philippi, it was a diverse group of people.
