Three Kings
Series Series in Jeremiah (2004-2007)
29
Aim: To serve Jesus, who is our great Sovereign.
Doctrine: God, the great King, works through subordinate kings. This is because He is the God of order; this is so as to correct and bless His church.
Exegesis: The types and roles of kings: some are examples of perdition (Pharaoh) (vv. 13-17); one is the supreme Lord (Christ) (vv. 18-19); some are instruments in God's hand (Nebuchadnezzar) (vv. 20-24).
Further: The Christian attitude toward kings: let us thank God for His sovereign ways, and let us be good citizens of two realms.
Key phrase: v. 18a '''As I live,' says the King, Whose name is the LORD of hosts...''
