Egypt's Day/God's Day
Series Series in Jeremiah (2004-2007)
37
Aim: To trust in Christ—even when victory seems impossible.
Doctrine: The world (viz., Egypt) is no match for God. All antichristian power must fail, despite its seeming invincibility.
Exegesis: God's way with the world: He mocks its pride (vv. 1-6); He destroys its hopes (vv. 7-10); He proves Christ's greatness (vv. 11-12).
Further application: How we are to live in the world: we are to discern between God's concern for nations, and His abhorrence of christlessness; and we are to be salt and light—spreading Christ everywhere.
Key phrase: v. 10a ''For this is the day of the Lord GOD of hosts, a day of vengeance, that He may avenge Himself on His adversaries...''
