Asahel Nettleton (1783-1844) is America's forgotten evangelist. Born in Connecticut, Nettleton's preaching was used by God in the conversion of over 30,000 souls during what is known as America's 'Second Great Awakening.'
Nettleton was vehemently opposed to the 'new measures' and the "anxious bench" (predecessor to the modern "altar call") introduced into evangelism by Charles Grandison Finney.
In this sermon read by Pastor Jon Cardwell, Nettleton logically presents the error of the Pelagian heresy and expresses his earnest conviction concerning the truth of the doctrine of grace and the sovereign work of God in salvation.
