David's Victory, Saul's Ruin & Misery
Series Survey of 1 Samuel
417
The first king of Israel began with great potential, but ended in great tragedy.
David has been forced to play a 'cat & mouse' game with Saul whose heart remains embittered against David. David seeks a refuge in the area of the Philistines where he knows Saul won't follow in his chase.
Saul seeks the help of a medium at Endor and gets news that is not what he wanted to hear through her conjuring up Samuel from the dead.
Lessons from these chapters:
- God takes care of His children even in the land of his enemy.
- Disobedience can be masked by obedience.
- God does not respond to the call of the disobedient.
- Pressure reveals character as well as perfects the character of the godly.
- There is no little disobedience.
- Sin always destroys and brings misery no matter how good and appealing it appears at first.
