Thesis: God chooses ordinary, ill equipped and weak instruments to represent Him and do His extraordinary work! Mark exposes readers to the figure of a divine, kingly, Messiah, The Son of God who engages people at their turf. HE becomes one of them.
Jesus called HIS disciples:
1.... where they were v.16
- In Galilee - to fulfill the prophecy Is 9:1
** Galilee not too popular for his proximity to gentiles
2.... As they were v.16
- Fishermen were Synagogue rejects
** God is in the business of calling and equipping ordinary people to
do extraordinary things - John 2:25/Rom 9:11
*** Simon and Andrew/James and John
3....to an extraordinary work v.17
- Fishermen to "tell the Good News"
** Be "witnesses"
*** to set doctrinal foundation
**** to be pillars along with the prophets
4..... to Himself v. 17
- Have a relationship with Jesus
** Mk 8:34-38
If God calls you, He will enable, equip and prepare you for every good work!
