The Avenues of Assault

In previous sections we explored the creation and existence of angels, and their nature, purpose and realm. Activities of the elect angels were explored to the limited extent they are mentioned in Scripture. Following that, we covered the fall of angels in their rebellion against God under the influence of Satan, and the results of that rebellion, both immediately and eventually. We have been exploring the unseen reality itself, in particular, the two kingdoms that are at war with each other, The Kingdom of God and the Kingdom of Satan. We examined Hades and Hell, as well as the “Intermediate state” of Heaven and the “ultimate” Heaven, which is that most glorious existence described, prepared and promised for all of God's redeemed believers, for all of eternity. Tonight's session continues the section on Spiritual Warfare by looking at the Avenues of Assault that Satan uses in his attacks upon the people of God. Satan's purposes are to oppose and negate all that God intends to accomplish in redemption with His people. To further that disruption, Satan employs devious schemes, lies, clever disguises, traps and snares, temptations, severe sifting, accusations and any other tactic that will undermine the faith and life of the believer. We are cautioned to ready to recognize and counter these moves as the Scriptures instruct us and as Jesus demonstrated during his experience of temptation at the hand of Satan himself.
