Balaam had forgotten, like many have forgotten today, that all Gospel Ministry is the sole property of Jesus Christ. It isn't our ministry; we cannot and should not take ownership of the ministry that Christ has placed into our hands. All ministry belongs solely to God, and we are but stewards of that great gift of ministry, and we should treat the ministry as though we are the caretakers of it and not the owners.
