Doctrine: God's law proves you could never be good enough in yourself to deserve heaven.
THE QUEST FOR SELF-JUSTIFICATION (10.25a). Lawyer identified, motives exposed. Grace/works mutually exclusive.
THE QUESTION FOR SELF-JUSTIFICATION (10.25b). "What shall I do to inherit eternal life?" Lawyer's terrible presupposition.
THE STANDARD FOR SELF-JUSTIFICATION (10.26-28)
- Its Place (10.26). The Scriptures.
- Its Perfection (10.27). Love God Always with 100% of your being. Love your neighbor always 100% as much and as well as you love yourself.
- Its Promise (10.28). Eternal life. True but wholly theoretical for sinners. We can only be saved by believing in Christ.
