Feminism, Marriage & Submission

We believe that the fall distorted everything. We believe that it twisted what it means to be a man and what it means to be a woman and what it means to be husband and wife. We believe that in Christ we are being redeemed, and part of the redemption is the death of both feminism and chauvinism.

What does that look like in practice? For the wife, it looks like submission. Not as something that her husband compels or commands, but as something which she offers freely. Submission is not silence, nor agreement, nor obedience; it is yielding to her husband the responsibility to fulfil his role as leader.

This sermon also asks the important question of whether a woman should submit to an abusive husband. (No. Abusive husbands should be reported to the authorities and have justice visited upon them and should be disciplined by the church. Both God, scripture and the law are on the side of the abused spouse.)
