VI. Transitions in Spiritual Growth

In the Old Testament, the priests were anointed with special oil. This oil is typical of the Holy Spirit of God. While the indwelling refers to the abiding presence of the Holy Spirit in the believer, the anointing refers to the abiding power of the Holy Spirit upon the believer. There was no indwelling in the Old Covenant prior to the Day of Pentecost in Acts chapter two. The relationship of anointing is the empowering of the Holy Spirit for a special kind of service as the believer fulfills the function of believer priest.
