The Doctrine of Fellowship 13

97
  1. Fellowship is our responsibility to actively be an encouragement to other brothers and sisters.
"But encouraging one another, and all the more"
    a. Fellowship serves to build up each other in growing love (1 Thes 5:5-11)
    b. Fellowship serves to confront us with the genuineness of our own salvation. (Rom 11:13-15)
    c. Fellowship serves to prove the genuineness of our love for other believers. (2 Cor 8:8-11)
    I. Fellowship is NOT a program but a way of living - "I say this not as a command, but to prove by the earnestness of others that your love also is genuine.
II. Fellowship is founded upon Christ's example of servant mindedness - "for you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
    • Christ's example is not one of personal ambition - "that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor"
    • Christ's example was one of lifting others up - "so that you by his poverty might become rich."
III. Fellowship is intentional-"and in this matter I give my judgment: this benefits you, who a year ago started not only to do this work but also to desire to do it."
IV. Fellowship is a marathon, not a sprint - "So now finished doing it as well, so that your readiness in desiring it may be matched by your completing it out of what you have."
