Psalm 18.30-50

The Christian life is often compared to warfare (Exodus 15.1-3; Revelation 19.11,14-15: 20.7-9). Three encouragements.

I. The sufficiency of God

God fits us for service (Ephesians 6.12-13).

A. The sword (18.30a) (Ephesians 6.17b)(Psalm 18.31).

B. The shield (18.30b)(Ephesians 6.16)(Verse 35).

C. The strength (18.32-34).

II. The Saviour's victory as the Lord's Anointed

In the OT times, God taught his people by outward things.

A. Christ as the Saviour of the World. (Romans 15.9)

B. Christ's enemies overcome (18.37-42).

C. Christ's supremacy secured. Each victory of David was a token of the ultimate victory of the Lord's Anointed. (Psalm18.43-45; Ps 2)

III. The saints' praise for their gracious blessings (18.46-50)

A. David praises God for his salvation (18.46).

B. David praises God for upholding his cause. (18.47).

C. David praises God for safe keeping (18.48).

Conclusion

Thankful praise. (18.49-50).
