Creation and Gender

When we come to speak about marriage according to scripture almost everything we say seems controversial in the 21st Century. We are saying something about gender (that it exists and matters), we are saying something about men and women (that they are different and not fluid), we are saying something about the nature of marriage and its purpose (that it is complementary and intended for procreation), by implication we are ruling out certain things (homosexuality and sexual expression outside of marriage). Almost everything we say about marriage is likely to trigger some reaction in the 21st Century.

However we believe it is for our benefit that we say such things. We are desperately in need of some unchanging standard, some truth that is unassailable in the arena of relationships. So as Christians we turn to the scripture and ask it to speak to us, rather than listening to us. We need something that calls us to obey and submit. The offer of scripture is to find purpose and design in living out the reality of who we were made to be.

So come and sit under the simple word of scripture as it addresses us, male and female, made in the image of God and designed for dominion.
