Are you free?

This past Thursday America celebrated a special anniversary; 237 years ago we declared our independence from an oppressive monarch. A foreign power that had maintained dominance over us for too long. We fought a war to win this freedom and still another with that same country to keep it. But there's a different freedom that I am here to talk about his morning. A freedom that once it is our than we can never lose it! A freedom we could never fight and win for ourselves. Truth be told only God could win such a victory. We are born with the chains of sin wrapped tight around us, inescapable. But Jesus, God in the flesh, won salvation; won pardon, won, forgiveness for our sins on the cross of Calvary. The victory He won is freely shared with those who will truly believe. Are you free today?
He is surrounded by pharisees, temple (church) goers, priests, his disciples, and an adulterous woman, just as we are here. Each one a born sinner just as we are. We didn't ask to be made sinners but we are and without Jesus we are bound for hell. The freedom we think we have really ain't and for most people that is a little hard to swallow. The problem is that the truth is a hard pill to swallow but once taken it goes to work right away. We need to be made free or liberated from the penalty of sin.
