The Rights of Americans

On the program today we will discuss the rights that we enjoy as American citizens from two different perspectives:

First we will look at our First Amendment Rights (the right of free speech) in light of the recent arrest of four Christian evangelists attending the 15th Annual Arab International Festival in Dearborn, Michigan. My guest during this portion of the program will be Mindy Belz, Editor of World Magazine. Mindy has recently written an article entitle “Smelting Pot” about this incident in the most recent issue of World Magazine.

On the second half of the program, we discuss a recent Discovery Institute article entitled, “We Hold Some Truths to be Self-Evident”. In that article the views of the Founding Fathers are examined. Specifically, their views of human dignity bestowed by virtue of our having been created according to the design and in the image of a purposeful creator. My guest during this portion of the program will be Dr. John West, a Senior Fellow at the Seattle-based Discovery Institute, where he is Associate Director of Discovery's Center for Science & Culture and Vice President for Public Policy and Legal Affairs. His current research examines the impact of Darwinian science on public policy and culture during the past century. His other areas of expertise include constitutional law, American government and institutions, and religion and politics.
