Our Lord Jesus is Our Excellent Federal Head

118

Though Solomon is sometimes a type of Christ, the contrasts between them offer a lively view of the excellencies of the Savior.

Solomon was warned of the consequences of apostacy and idolatry. God promised him that obedience and faithfulness would lead to blessing, but a falling away would destroy the entire nation.

This point is mostly missed: God promised to judge Israel according to the deeds of its annointed ruler Solomon. Like Adam and Christ, Solomon was the federal head of his people, even though they never chose him.

Sadly, Solomon fell into idolatry when he followed after his foreign wives in their worship of pagan gods. And true to God's promise, the people also fell into idolatry, and it was ultimately that for which God judged the entire nation.

Solomon's apostacy destroyed the entire nation when it was finally carried off into the Babylonian captivity.

But oh the glories of the Lord Jesus! We His people are judged according to His righteousness, which is forever perfect! God has annointed Him to be our Prince and Savior. How much God loves us to give us such a King!

Because our Prince is always well-pleasing to the Father, so are we His people! God imputes to us Christ's perfection! The Scriptures are full of testimony to Christ's holiness and blamelessness.

Not only so, but our Head and King took all our shame and guiltiness upon Himself, that He might pay the penalty and let us go free. He did that when He shed His precious blood at Calvary.

Solomon alienated Israel by his sinning, but Christ reconciles us to God by His perfect obedience.

Solomon lost a kingdom to sin, but Christ laid aside His glory to save us!
