Darkness & Light 1

101

Everything in the entire created order is in a constant state of flux. Nothing ever stays the same. Not even for a moment. That applies to you and I as well.

But, its not just our bodies that undergo a steady state of change. Our minds, personalities and spiritual states are always changing as well. That means, if we do not give INTENTION to the process of change in our lives, we will be shaped by the values of a fallen world and the desires of our fallen flesh.

Paul cautioned us: 'do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind' (Ro. 12:2). In other words, if we do not make an intentional effort to renew our minds according to God's Word WE WILL be 'conformed' to the opinions, values and pursuits of this passing world.

If this principle is true, and it is, why do so many Christians avoid making a plan and an effort toward intentional, biblical change? One writer showed some insight when he wrote: 'People avoid change until the pain of remaining the same is greater than the pain of changing.' That is so true in many cases.

Change requires both courage and determination in a fallen world. Courage makes the decision to change; determination is the persistence to continue in that change.
