Family worship: The biblical principles of teaching.
The need and principles of Christian educations.
Deuteronony 8 v 11 & 12:
'Then beware lest thou forget the Lord thy God.'
The principles of creation need to be foundational in understanding who we are and who God is.
We need Christian principles in education because we are dependant on God, we cannot come to right conclusions from our own understanding. This applies to science also.
Another basic assumption for Christian education is that we are all sinners. This is opposite Rousou and his 'Emile' which is foundational in secular education.
We also need to assume an originally good creation. This explains the origin of evil and our need for salvation.
What is the task of Christian education? Remember Augustines 'take up and read.' - Teach them the word of God. Our domain is morality. See Deut 6. The purpose is to lead them into the school of the Holy Spirit and Christ.
Practically we do this by teaching them the four cardinal virtues:
Wisdom
Righteousness
Moderation
Perserverance
We need to curb the passions of our children. 'tribulation worketh patience...' In the wilderness, they were taught to seek provision in their needs only from him.
Remember always that, ultimately, Christian principles are taught to prepare for the school of the Holy Spirit which leads to Christ.
