A New Covenant in His Blood

Why do we celebrate the Lord’s Supper? There are several answers to this question. First, we do this because the Lord commanded us to participate in the Lord’s Supper. Another very important reason is because it pictures for us something very important. The first Lord’s Supper marked the initiation of the new covenant in Christ. Each of the four accounts of the Lord’s Supper in the New Testament mention this covenant. We read here in 1 Corinthians 11:25 these words, “In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.’” Why is this important for us to understand when we come to the Lord’s Supper? It is important for two reasons.
