Famine

This vignette from David's reign opens with an extended, continuous famine. Only after three years of famine did David seek the Lord concerning a spiritual cause for the suspension of God's covenant blessing. The reason was the disobedience of Saul, and the blood guilt on his family because of how he dealt with the Gibeonites. Many times, suspension of God's covenant blessing can be traced to a spiritual issue on our part, and we should seek the Lord sooner rather than later in these circumstances.
