The Sabbath Commandment
Series Heidelberg Catechism
220
Remember the Sabbath Day to keep it holy. Many today have forgotten it, not accidentally, but wilfully. God, however, has sanctified the Sabbath, and we are called to treat it as holy.
Is the Fourth Commandment simply ceremonial, Jewish and Levitical? In this sermon Rev. Kleyn shows from Scripture that this commandment is a permanent precept, still binding on the N.T. church.
Sure, there is a change from the last to the first day of the week (also explained in the sermon) but the commandment and its requirement still stand as moral obligations for man in every age.
And when we understand the Sabbath, what a gift it is! Hebrews 4 -- it points us to the eternal rest, earned by Christ, and awaiting all who live in faith.
