God's Elect Comforted

The twenty-third Psalm continues to build. This verse declares the Sustainer of the sheep.The sheep face life's greatest enemy: death. The symbolism of passing through the "valley of the shadow of death" was real to the shepherds in Old Testament days. It was a deep, steep and narrow ravine. Many terrifying creatures - man and beast- gave reason to fear. The verse ends with a great promise and comfort. David said: "thou art with me".
